Today's post is from the lovely kitzheng, talented fellow author, editor and illustrator. And I was lucky enough to meet her at Yaoi Con last year, say hello (shyly, both of us *lol*) and get a *signed* print of her cover for Flipped Fables!

I have to confess, my favourite of her work so far is Checkpoint :

Evern has had a rough couple of days, with his ex-lover leaving him in a very public way, and now his piercings are setting off the metal detectors at the airport. In fact, he's set off so many bells and whistles that Officer Regan pulls him into a private room for a little inspection of what might trigger an alarm. Will Evern's day get worse, or will a steamy encounter make him feel better than he has in a long time?

GOD it was fun! *lol* And well written, it was a witty, sensual, satisfying read. Yes, I do hammer on about how I like wit in my fiction, it goes together like fish and chips to me *lol*.
Buy buy buy!
/end pimp *lol*.

Here's her site where she explains more about herself and the more speculative fiction she likes to write. And there's FREE fiction! (remember the post last week...?)

So today...? I'll leave it up to her words to draw you in...

The Kink that Dare not Speak Its Name

Recently Clare shared with me a story she wrote, which I hope she won't mind me talking about. It was called Six of the Best and it's

Well-written, as well, I'm sure we've all come to expect, but also dark, provocative and hitting one of my hot buttons square on the head.

I'll admit, it's one of those hot spots I'm rather embarrassed to talk about. I'd never condone it in real life, but in fiction, it's just plain sexy. So many of my other, er, interests, can be included in a story of this kind: control, trust, fear, danger... cool metal on hot body parts.

Manna's Boy's Toys is another story featuring the same sexy subject
I don't want to confess to liking.

Just... yum.

So I keep telling myself I'm not the only one with a few fiction-fantasies that are better left unrevealed. What about you?

Do you have a fetish you like to find in stories that's too embarrassing--or freaky--to admit? Or do you wear it all where it can be seen, loud and proud?

Maybe you could sneakily 'fess up to it by sharing a few links? C'mon, you know you want to ;)

Do you know how excited I am to be linked to Manna's Administration characters in an LJ post?!!!! And no, everyone, I didn't prompt or bribe Kit in any way *lmao*.

They are one of my VERY favourite books ,especially fab now they're out in print at Casperian Books.
(dear God, I must love them, I'm pimping someone else's books *lol*).
Manna's skill is in writing edgy, complex, emotive, provocative sex scenes that still thrill us.

But back to Kit...?!
I think Reading Kinks are, obviously. very personal. Sometimes very secret. Or amusing!
But I think all that is the essence of their *attraction*. You can have what you will - it doesn't have to be comfortable or familiar or socially acceptable or even hygienic. If the fiction is out there and you love it - and can get hold of it! - it's all about the ME.
In your own space, you can read and give rein to your imagination, all to your heart's desire.

Are Kinks MORE exciting because we ARE a bit ashamed of them? Or should we embrace them as a lover?!!

Is one reader's 'tiresome' another reader's 'thrill'?
I love the idea that what makes one person yawn makes another one blush!

Brilliant post, thanks!!

Hey you! Thanks for letting me be a part of your birthday month! And... oops, you can tell I wrote that when I was a bit tired, can't you? *is silly*

Are Kinks MORE exciting because we ARE a bit ashamed of them?

*grins* there is that, isn't there? I know I can be a bit of a stickler for reality in certain aspects of my fiction but when it comes to reading kinks I want scenarios I'd never get involved in in real life. That's part of the fun, isn't it? I mean, you will never have in reality a half-demon hottie writhing on his sentient sword, arching up in ecstasy instead of screaming and spewing guts and blood everywhere (never mind the half-demon part). *little sigh* ;)

Ahh... guns. I am only surprised it's not one of my kinks, all things considered. It's not a squick or anything, at least not when presented like in Manna's story (and I am the squee-y owner of the first two Administration paperbacks!), though I gotta say that I find Six of the Best on the verge of too much for me. Even past the verge - it's so psycho, even if it's better by the end when I know who the bullet is for... So kinks are very weird that way, because I can read pretty extreme stuff when it's my own kink.

In truth, I am still finding new kinks through fiction, but one of my major ones has always been non-con. Like with guns, it's something you might feel a little guilty for, right? We know it's all and only in our heads, but still it's not something we brag about. I'm definitely not hiding it, but when talking to new people or those that don't share the kink I feel the need to explain, to say why I use the term 'non-con' instead of 'rape' etc. Basically it's a need to excuse myself, I guess, despite knowing for a fact that it's a very common fantasy and hardly the kinkiest kink I've heard of.

Haha, it just hit me that I'm in the magic land of slash - in the real world, liking m/m is considered pretty damn kinky!

Obviously, none of this was too freaky for me to admit, and I'll freely declare that Manna's Admin series gets me hotter than hell, for reference. But I guess I have a few versions of non-con and other kinks - scenes here and there - that I haven't ever discussed. It would just take too much 'disclaiming' to be done quickly.

It would just take too much 'disclaiming' to be done quickly.

Besides embarrassment, I think that is a huge reason why it's hard to talk about those kinds of kinks. How much explaining before you can convince your friends that really, you liking stories involving, say, some guy being coated in couscous and then involved in bukkake, does not mean you would ever ever ever actually WANT to be coated in couscous and come upon by several men? *grins*

As a fellow non-con fan, I feel you there. It really is a hard one to talk about and hard to explain, even though it is (relatively) common.

Isn't it peculiar how the internet can make you feel "safe" in liking m/m, but then you (or perhaps I mean I) go to work and you'd never ever talk about it there. Context is everything, I guess!

the internet can make you feel "safe" in liking m/m

- which is why I hug my LJ friends and other internet animals to my modest-sized bosom and squeeze them hard with joy! It's a wonderful thing.

My deeper kinks is one thing I don't go into much even with my best RL friend (with whom I'll otherwise talk about sex in disturbing detail), yet here in this context it's ok. Perhaps even easier because I don't know you even from an online perspective. Yup, peculiar.

I tell you, I'm not shy about my kinks, fic or otherwise. But then again, I think you knew that.

I wish I had some links for you, but it's been a long day!!
